The Second Half Art Exhibition

After the success of last year’s exhibition, tutor Laura Giles decided to give class members a theme to follow - Our Place. Viewing to the art exhibition is free, so why not come along and see for yourselves what excellent work our local artists have created. The Second Half Activity Programme is for people over the age of 50 and the three Art classes take place on Fridays (10.00am to 12.00pm, 12.00pm to 2.00pm and 2.00pm to 4.00pm).

Community Groups and young people have been working with artist Ruth Allen in producing drawing and prints for this exhibition celebrating the Big Draw Campaign 2008. The Campaign for Drawing has one aim: to get everyone drawing! Over 1000 UK venues will take part in the ninth Big Draw from 1st to 31st October 2008. This annual programme shows that drawing is the perfect medium for observation, self-expression and fun.

Draw a Crowd proves that drawing can be an enjoyable public activity as well as a private passion. The mission is not to teach people how to draw, but how to see.

Join us for a FREE drawing workshop on Saturday 11th. October at the Brewhouse 12.30pm to 2.30pm. You will have the opportunity to produce a drawing that could be part of the exhibition.

Now that the nights are beginning to draw-in and the children are back at school, what better time to plan a night or day out to look forward to?

Autumn is a fantastic time for wrapping up warm and setting off for a brisk walk to enjoy the magnificent colours of the changing leaves. East Staffs Ramblers Group are conducting walks around Newton Solney, Calke Park and Anslow to introduce you to the delights of our local area and if you want something more educational, why not join the Claymills Bird Walk on 18 October or the ‘Trees & Seeds’ walk around Stapenhill Hollows on 26 November

 

The annual Statutes Fair takes place on Monday 6 October followed by the ever popular Burton Model Railway ‘Railfair ‘ and the Toy and Train fair in November.

 

And although I hate to say it, November also sees the switching-on of Burton and Tutbury’s Christmas Lights but before that, Halloween and Bonfire night will fill the sky with colour.

It`s good to be back on line. We apologise for any inconvenience during our few days absence.

Our main website, Blog and Photo gallery all crashed down this week. With the help of our service provider the main site has now been restored.

 

BADAC`s own back up copies have restored this Blog to working order although we have lost some of the graphics from the latest postings.

 

We hope it will not be too long before the BADAC Photo gallery is also restored to working order.

 

BADAC is actively progressing the updating of our web service software to facilitate maintenance in the future.

South Derbyshire Dance Partnership Showcase present
“TWO NIGHTS ONLY”

 

From the success of last years show, One Night Only has now become two! This showcase of dance brings together local dance schools and community groups in one explosive performance! From ballet to street dancing, the rhythm is gonna get you! There will be dancers of all ages and abilities, ranging from beginners to semi-professional.

 

This performance is organised by the South Derbyshire Dance Partnership, which started in September 2006 and saw a number of organisations, including the School Sports Partnership, South Derbyshire District Council, and NHS Primary Care Trust, all working together to celebrate dance from South Derbyshire.

AYNSLEY LISTER

Aynsley Lister does not simply reheat the blues of yesteryear - no simple 12 bar numbers here. He produces songs with a contemporary feel and sound, infusing influences from the 1960’s blues boom era with a more current melodic and lyrical approach. Aynsley is one of the very few artists playing rocking blues with a modern edge - tangible, heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine songwriting; played with passion, vitality and simply stunning guitar work, reminiscent of a young Clapton.

BANGING FOR BRITAIN

Lloyd Ryan, one of Britain’s most accomplished drummers. Lloyd will be doing what he does best… drumming and talking! but it’s not just for drummers, along with some explosive drumming Lloyd will also talk about his 40 year career which has included working with artists such as Tony Christie, Matt Monroe, Brotherhood of Man, The New Seekers, Tommy Cooper and Bobby Davro, to name just a few. So, expect explosive drumming, amusing stories and the occasional surprise, plus the opportunity to ask questions and get some top tips. Many of Lloyd’s former students have also achieved great success Phil Collins (Genesis), Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai), John Coughlan (ex Status Quo), Nick Simms (Cornershop) and Keef Hartley (John Mayall) are just a few examples.

Three’s Company – although this time there’s four of them – are staging their first full-length musical at Burton’s Brewhouse next month.

 

Edward Moore, Rachael Histed and Heather Gallagher, as Three’s Company, have staged a number of charity concerts in the town in recent years.

 

 

Now, joined by their friend Martin Scattergood, they are hoping to fill every seat in the auditorium by staging the hilarious musical comedy “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” for two nights only on Friday October 31 and Saturday November 1, at 7.30pm.

 

 

But first they need some help with tracking down a couple of special seats.

 

Publicity secretary Elaine Pritchard explained: “We are trying to find someone who can lend us a pair of cinema seats for a number in the show called ‘Tear Jerk’.

 

“It’s about a man who lives to regret asking his date to choose the film they go and watch at the cinema when it turns out to be a chick-flick weepie.”

 

 

The hard-working cast of four play numerous different characters in the show which sets out to show you everything you ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws, but were afraid to admit.

 

 

The show has been a worldwide theatre hit. It ran for 12 years off Broadway notching up more than 5,000 performances. The musical has also been performed in more than 500 cities, translated into 12 languages and received eight international Best Musical awards. But next month’s show will be its first performance in Burton-on-Trent.
